Summery:In the future dystopian society of Cabal, the government instills equality for all and offers its citizens the perfect system. There is food, shelter and jobs for everyone. The one requirement is to follow the rules without question, including the government’s match in marriage and “The Day of the Chosen”, a lottery that randomly selects families to conceive children as natural means hasn’t existed in generations. Following her eighteenth birthday, Olivia Parker accepts her requirement to marry her childhood best friend, Joshua Warren, and is eager to start her work assignment and new life when it all comes abruptly to an end as she’s arrested and thrown in prison. The only crime committed, her existence. Olivia is unlike the rest of the world born not from “The Day of the Chosen.” The truth haunts the government and puts her life in grave danger as one simple fact would destroy the perfect system.
With Joshua’s help, Olivia breaks free of prison and is forced on the run. Together they set out to find the promised rebel town in search of a new home and new life together. Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Leaving would mean most certain death in the large expanse of the Gravelands. Time is running out as the government mounts an attack to destroy Olivia and bury her secret with her. Thrown into a world unlike their own, they must quickly adapt to survive.
*I have received this copy threw NeGalley for a honest review.
Reading the summery i could already tell it was gonna be similar to other Dystopian books like Matched, With the whole pairing couples to be with and merry. I did like the whole concept of people being test tube babies, cause women can’t get pregnant.. Once married you have to win the lottery to be given children. and that’s the reason why everyone wanted Olivia, her mother give birth to her naturally and Olivia is suspected to do the same. Some want her dead to keep the secret down and control people and others want her to bear children against her will.
They set off outside the wall from the government to join the rebels. They find out that they are keep secrets after discover what they want her she leaves the rebel city. Following the map to a secret city not on any other map and the a gang of fighting solders of the rebels. Under different names they have no choice but to join the fight.
The book does a LOT of similarity to books like Matched and Hunger games. a little bit of divergent. I didn’t really mind tho, i knew it was gonna be like that before i started reading it. I did get a little annoyed of Olivia and josh relationship. it didn’t start making since to me. More towards the end you get to really start to understand there relationship a little bit. They already had a bound from being best friends since children. But i do wish i could have gotten to see there relationship grow more instead of insta love kinda thing. Dating a best friend can be awkward.
The book did have very little flaws. The book doesn’t get really good until the end and you just really want more. I was disappointing in the fact the book was short. I was enjoying the suspense to much. I can’t say the book was my favorite but i did like where the plot was heading toward so my overall rating 3.5. I honest recommend readers that like Matched and Hunger games, to read it. People will love the characters and the adventure. I will be reading the next book for sure.
