For Review

Defy by Sara B. Larson Ebook – If you read my last weeks WoW post, you know that i wanted to read this book. Well i was lucky enough to get this copy threw NetGalley. I am really, Really, Really Excited to read this book! I am very thankful to get this chance.

I haven’t been posting as much as i would like. I been super busy working on the house like: Pulling Carpet, Pulling Nails and Staples from the floor and then finally putting new hardwood flooring. It’s been a none-fun ride.

I am a little behind on my Reviews and reading so i am hoping to catch up this week and post more. I didn’t post a WoW post this week, so next week i will be posting a Double WoW post. Stay Tuned for that.

On other other news! I seen Catching Fire! and i got to say it was perfection! Catching Fire was honestly better then the first movie. Everyone’s acting was SPOT on. They did wonderful in Catching Fire. The movie did have a few changes but they seemed small compared to the whole movie. The movie stayed true to the story and it had all the important parts. Overall i loved it! I cried, I laughed, and then cried some more.

YA Book Review: In Shadow of Magic by Alison Prince

Type: Supernatural, Magic

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: Mandy McKinney lives the charmed life. She is beautiful, athletic, popular, dating the hottest jock in school, and certainly doesn’t have any time for her loser twin sister. But Mandy also has a secret. When the truth is unveiled, her world is twisted upside down, and her very life is at stake.

Mandy’s twin sister, Brianna, has never had any success in the dating department. When Brianna finally meets the guy of her dreams, it turns out that he has secrets of his own. Dangerous secrets. Just her luck.

The twins are about to be swept away into a world of beauty and power beyond their wildest imaginations where nothing is what is seems, danger is lurking in the shadows, and their only chance of survival is finding themselves, and each other, once again.

My first thought when i seen the cover was ” She looks like Natalie Portman” when reading the book later on i couldn’t stop picturing her as Young Natalie Portman, and then i read the summery and thought the book sounded interesting and really want to read it, so i was happy to accept.

The story mainly surrounds the life of Two sisters who are twins. Mandy stronger then Brianna’s. Mandy uses her powers to look beautiful and fit in School. Bri on the other hand powers on very slim, She never uses her powers. She Hangs with the outcasts in there band.

In the beginning story you already start to dislike Mandy, and feel sorry for Bri. The more you read the story Mandy grows on you and you kinda start to understand her a little more. Mandy takes most of the spot light in the book. The whole plot pretty much surrounds Mandy. Her ” Who she thought ” Best friend is set on revenge and tricks Brianna to take Mandy’s powers away. Brianna has Mandy’s powers and starts to abuse them. Honestly the More the story got i really started to dislike Brianna. She believes pretty much anything someone tells her. She is very Gullible and then becomes the person she hates.

The more the story goes i would find myself annoyed with some characters and the story would drag on in some parts. The story in a way reminded me of Mean Girls. The unpopular set on ravage becomes the Popular and then loses control and everything become a huge Jungle of wild animals.

Now don’t get me wrong the book does have it’s good moments were you are sucked in and wanting more. More toward the end you get into a wider plot of other supernatural beings like: Vampires, Reborn’s and Etc. That had my attention. The story does get better. I really wish the ending wasn’t cut so short. I wanted more to the plot.

I was disappointing in the fact there wasn’t much of action as much as i would like. I really wanted less school drama and more of the supernatural life. I needed more fire in the story. I really tried to love the story but it just didn’t have a spark with me. Now the story wasn’t bad. The writing was really good. I really liked the ending. I do overall recommend the story.  I can see a lot of people liking the story.

Overall: I didn’t dislike the story and did grab my attention but i didn’t love the story.

YA Book Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Right in the beginning you are already warped in Juliette Emotions, It was heart breaking reading about Juliette.

I really loved how i just completely lost myself in the words and the story of the characters in the book. Juliette has always thought she was a monster, her own parents give her up. for 264 days Juliette hasn’t touched anyone or even seen a boy her own age. She been locked away in a asylum. Juliette has a gift that she rather think of as a cruse. When people touch her they get hurt or even die.

A boy named Adam was thrown in Juliette Cell after 264 days being alone. When Juliette sees Adam she slowly remember that he was the boy from her school before she was taking. Adam was different. No one has ever liked Juliette, even tho they have never spoken, Adam was the only one not scared of Juliette.

Juliette not knowing, Adam has been looking for her ever since she disappeared and has been working for the government to find her and help her. Adam has always loved Juliette But i don”t think he really realized that until he got to finally too see her again.

The writing was very different and unique and i was just obsessed with it. The writing made it a enjoyable experience. You could really feel the characters threw the writing and really know and understand Juliette.

Reading this book made me realize that i freaking just love Adam and Juliette…they are very Shippable  if that isn’t love then i don’t know what love is anymore. That stuff Adam does for Juliette and even what Juliette does for Adam was just pure love.

Being with Adam, she slowly learns that she isn’t a monster. She learns to take control and fight. Towards the end you are open to more then just a love story. They come across a place with people with powers just like Juliette that are part of the rebellion and the story just gets better and better the more the story goes.

I really loved the story, and couldn’t find a flaw. I was just madly in love with everything about this book and can’t wait to read more in the series. The book is full of Action and suspense, a Romance that will bring tears to your eyes. Everyone i feel like will full in love with the story and Juliette.

Overall: I am completely crazy for this book. Like i haven’t felt such in love with a book since The Hunger Games and Divergent. My two favorite book of all times. Shatter me has defiantly reach that level for me. I 100% Loved it. I just want to re-read this book like 1000000 freaking times over and over again. Truly an amazing read.

YA Book Review: Cursed By Lizzy Ford

Title: Cursed ( Voodoo Nights #1 )
Author: Lizzy Ford
Expected publication: February 9th 2014 by Evatopia Press
Type: Fantasy, Paranormal
Source: NetGalley

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: The Red Man is coming …

Five years after her sister disappeared, seventeen-year-old Adrienne finds the strength to return to her father’s home in New Orleans. But soon after she arrives, the mark of a curse appears on her, leaving her worried. Will she be the next victim of a four-hundred-year old family curse … the next to be claimed by a serial killer roaming the back alleys of the city?

The day before his senior year begins, Jayden is given a skeleton key passed down through his family for generations — a gruesome reminder of how his ancestors betrayed their own people and sold them into slavery. He doesn’t believe in the curse the key allegedly bears and puts it away with the intention of forgetting about its message. Until he meets Adrienne, a girl he’s compelled to for more reasons than her beauty.

He’s not the only one who notices her. A man in a skeleton mask and a voodoo gang member are also drawn to Adrienne. One is determined to protect her. The other intends to mislead her. Haunted by the mythical Red Man, all are connected to the ancient curse.

Can they overcome their misgivings about one another and prevent the dark prophecy looming over them? Or will they be lured away from each other by evil’s siren song?

The book sounded like it would be really awesome read and the cover was really cool..but sadly the beginning didn’t keep my attention as much as i would like. The way the book was written was pretty plain to me and half the time i would find myself really bored.

I couldn’t relate with any of the characters. The characters in the book aren’t very rememberable to me. And it wasn’t just the characters. I would get lost on what was going on a lot and i had to keep repeating what i read. When stuff starts to get good it was rushed. you have to go threw a maze before you understand the whole plot. I did skip a lot of parts, not really meaning to but it just wasn’t catching my attention.

I really tried to like the book but it was hard. I had a difficult time finishing the book. It did have it’s good moments in the book and i also can see people really liking the book. It just wasn’t for me.

The book isn’t out yet, so i don’t want to say too much. I do honestly recommend people to read this book when it comes out and give it a chance.

The really cool thing about the book is it is based in New Orleans. And of course New Orleans screams Spooky and well parties but mostly spooky. and the book definitely highlights that whole New Orleans Voodoo Myth. I always wanted to visit New Orleans. The place just sounds so freaking fun.

Overall: The beginning was boring, I wish the characters would have stand out a little more and then maybe i could of got more into it. The book didn’t totally suck. I have read worse. The Writing i feel like can lean more towards older then younger.

YA Book Review: Champion by Marie Lu

Title: Champion ( Legend #3 )
Author: Marie Lu
Published: November 5th 2013 by Putnam Juvenile
Type: Dystopian, Science Fiction
Source: Amazon

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: The explosive finale to Marie Lu’s New York Times bestselling LEGEND trilogy—perfect for fans of THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT!

He is a Legend.
She is a Prodigy.
Who will be Champion?

June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps Elect while Day has been assigned a high level military position. But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them once again. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything he has. With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu’s bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

I fell in love with this series from the start. I loved June and Day so much and their sides of the story. But i was a little disappointed in Champion. I felt very disconnected to June, i didn’t really get what her side of the story until the end. Day steals the show in champion. Marie Lu did a good job portraying Days struggle with his emotions of his past.

I did in fact liked how the plot was heading but then hit a bump and felt disappointing..I guess i was expecting some huge battle and what i got was a confusing ending..I really didn’t see the point in. I guess i’m just a sucker for a happy ending and when i don’t i just get confused and blaa.

Now that was really my only problems with it. Everything else i loved! Mostly because Day is such a bad ass even tho ( Spoiler Warning ) he was dying he still got right in the front of the chaos to fight for the people he loved. and then have to lose his memorys of june, was freaking heartbreaking ( End of spoiler )

You do get that action and romance we all craved in the series in champion and it is very fan-girl worthy. you get glimpse of new territory and let me tell you video games geeks in the world will love it. Since the book did recently come out i don’t want to say too much.

Overall: I liked the book, specially Days side of the story. I did feel like something was missing in the story and wish i didn’t feel so disconnected to June. I can see a lot of people loving the story and people who might not.

Waiting on Wednesday (10) – Alienated by Melissa Landers

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating!

Title: Alienated ( Alienated #1 )
Author: Melissa Landers
Expected publication: February 4th 2014 by Disney Hyperion
Type: Science Fiction

Goodreads: Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Thoughts: So far every Disney/Hyperion book that i have read has be awesome. This book seems no different. The book sounds different then the books that have been coming out lately but still have the things i love. I am all for Science Fiction and a story packed with adventures….and of course a side of romance. I’m a girl, i can’t help but crave some romance. One thing is i don’t like is the cover. It’s just to much going on for me. I’m sure once i read the book i will connect more to it.

Cara already sounds like a character i can relate to and easily fall love with. I am really excited to learn more about Cara and Aelyx ( maybe ship worthy? ). I can’t wait to dig in this one and just get zoned in it. I really hope it’s good. What do you guys think?

My overall reaction

YA Book Review: Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Title: Demonglass ( Hex Hall #2 )
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Published: February 7th 2012 by Disney-Hyperion
Type: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal
Source: Books-a-million

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: The critics have spoken-this New York Times best-seller is “impossible to put down!” Teens and reviewers alike have fallen in love with Demonglass’ humor, forbidden romance, suspense, and delicious paranormal fun.
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch, which was why she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered she’s a demon, and her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping her kind off the face of the earth. What’s worse, Sophie has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is why she decides to go to London for the Removal, a risky procedure that will either destroy her powers forever-or kill her. But once Sophie arrives, she makes a shocking discovery: someone is raising new demons in secret and planning to use their powers to destroy the world. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Acher to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

I fell in love with Hex hall and Sophie’s humor. I had major high hopes for Demonglass. I’m happy to say Demonglass didn’t fail me.

Demonglass is set after the end of Hex Hall. Sophie wants to go to London with her father to go threw the remove. She learns she isn’t a witch but a demon. Turns out she is more powerful then she thought and dangerous. After the death of her school mate and being hunted by her grandmother, She is determined to never use her powers again.

To go threw the remove she has to stay with her father for the summer. Her Father doesn’t want her to go threw it. With all that drama she finds out her father betrothed her and cal, and living with two other demons and one looks like Archer.

With the epic plot twist in the beginning. I was already hooked. Someone is raising demons, Archer pops up along with The Eye. Archer and Sophie try to figure out who is raising the demons. Who they found out who has been doing it shocks them both.

Sophie is still has the sarcastic humor we all have grown to love in Hex Hall but she is always more serious. She struggles to trust Archer and the people she has trusted. Sophie becomes Torn between doing what is right and wrong. She tried to ignore the love she has for Archer.

In my honest opinion i love Cal a lot more then i do Archer…so if i had to pick i’m all for team Cal….His sweet and caring. There is just so much i want to know about him. There is a lot you don;t know about cal, so he has this mysterious feel about him, and his a awesome healer.

The book is filled with suspense, plot twists, action and of course the romance. I laughed, I cried, I went  insane. I loved the writing, The characters, Pretty much everything. You could just feel the emotions in the words and i could picture what was going on easily in my mind.

At the end you are left with lots of unanswered question and more. you are just stuck wanting to know what will happen to everyone and Sophie and what will just happened next. Be prepared for the ending by keep tissues near by.

Again i still recommend this series so far. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I really hope the series keeps getting better.

YA Book Review: Truth by Christina Benjamin

Title: Truth ( The Geneva Project #1 )
Author: Christina Benjamin
Published: September 15th 2012 by Crown Atlantic Publishing
Type:  Fantasy, Dystopian
Source: From the Author for a honest Review

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: Trapped on a flood ravaged island full of orphans, natives and wealthy citizens of the prosperous city Lux, a young girl named Geneva finds herself enslaved at an orphanage with no future and a past she can’t remember. That all changes when she meets someone who promises her that there’s more in store for her than she ever could have imagined. Her once dull life rapidly spirals out of control as she starts to acquire new magical powers that may be the key to unlocking an ancient legend along with her true identity. But first she must master these powers, all while trying to keep them secret from her friends and the evil head mistress at the orphanage. Before she knows it, Geneva is in over her head and has inadvertently wrapped her friends into her web of magic and lies and now all of their lives hang in the balance once the head mistress finds out her plan to prove that the legend of Lux may not be a legend at all! Who will Geneva trust and how far will she go to save her friends and find out her true identity?

I really don’t have much to say about my experience reading the book so it’s gonna be short. Not that the book was bad it just didn’t overall grab my attention like i would’ve liked.  I don’t really know the real reason why i just couldn’t enjoy the story. At times i would find myself bored with Geneva.  I like the whole concept of a flood destroy everyone and the parents who died and the kids being left behind are put into this orphanage. The Book doesn’t really get good until the end. Most of the time you are just reading about Geneva learning her powers and crying about wanting to know the truth. To be honest i didn’t like Geneva. She let her new friends push her only friend away. She wined a lot and never knows when to keep her mouth shout.

The story was definitely missing more action and suspense. A lot of it was very predictable at times. I really like the characters but Geneva. I would probably of liked the story better if it was in Rimey’s point of View. What you did get of of Rimey was interesting but you never really got to know him very well in the story.

Besides character issues and a boring beginning. The story was enjoyable. when the action begins you are put into a plot twist that leaves with questions. I really wish we could of had more of the plot then the run around you got most of the time reading. The overall plot had my attention. I feel like it was over shadowed with a lot of noting.

Overall: Needed more action and less Geneva. The ending makes reading the book somewhat worth it.
