add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: Vain Lily Blackwood and her shy brother Silas wonder if their family will ever settle in one place long enough to lead a normal life. When a mysterious stranger in a wolf-hide cloak arrives claiming to be their uncle, they discover their parents have been hiding a secret that turns their world upside down.

The two are kidnapped and transported to Nightfall Gardens, the family’s ancestral home, a place shrouded in fog and ancient mystery, where they meet their dying grandmother and learn of an age-old curse placed on Blackwood females.

Lily must take over as protector of the house and three haunted gardens that hold mythical beasts, fairy-tale nightmares and far worse. If she doesn’t, the evil trapped there will be unleashed and bring on a new dark age.

While she deals with malevolent ghosts, murderous dolls and killer insects inside the house, Silas is put to work in the gardens, a hothouse of terror, where one wrong step means death.

Along the way, they search to unlock the riddle of the curse and to stop the creatures in the gardens before time runs out and the world is destroyed.

My first thought on this book was the fact how creepy the cover looks. I do like how it wasn’t all done up in Photoshop and you got a nice old fashion sketch on the cover that gives off the spooky factor of the book. Books now days all done with a lot of editing and Photoshop with too much going on, so i really liked that about this book.

At the beginning the book does kinda start out a little slow, but on the plus side it wasn’t boring slow, more like i can deal with slow if that makes any since at all. The book does eventually speeds up more and get the idea of the whole plot. The book is about 2 siblings; Lily and Silas. One chapter will be the Sister and then the next would be about the brother. Lily is forced to live in the Nightfall gardens home because of a cruse made long ago. Her brother follows and tries to save but instead becomes a Guard in the nightfall gardens while Lily is stuck inside the home.

You do get see read about some interesting creatures and the spooky and some really cool characters. But i was a little disappointed, maybe cause i was expecting more Scary and spooky in the book. I wanted to be scared. The book does have the spooky and creepy but it wasn’t as much as i was expecting. But the book was a interesting read. There is this whole different and unique feel to it. It had a really interesting concept that i did like and i loved how the book was written. I also loved the fact it was about 2 siblings. It was east to read each chapter. They have different personalty that was easy to pick up on from the beginning, so you can always tell who you are reading about.

I did feel like Silas stole the spot-line in the book. You got more of what was going on in Nightfall Gardens, with Silas. With Lily it did get boring at times. She is always in the house threw most of the book all you see is her adventure in rooms trying discover the mystery of the homes and the cruse. I do like Silas more just because of him seeing the Nightfall gardens and seeing what lies in there you get more of the creepy creatures when you read about him. Tho the rooms changing does creep me out a bit.

The book really doesn’t get really exciting until the end really, you get more of the taste of the plot and the book jumps to more of the scary factor that i really liked about the book but of course it ends with the plot still hanging in the air for you to read more in the next book just to find out what happens to them.

Overall i am gonna give this book a 3.5. I did like the book but i did love it. I am hoping the second book gives us more and i am excited to read next. not a bad book i can see people liking this story.
