YA Book Review : Indelible Book One – Dawn Metcalf

  •     Title: Indelible ( The Twixt #1 )
  •     Author : Dawn Metcalf
  •     Published:  2013 by Harlequin Teen
  •     type: Paranormal, Urban Fantasy
  •     Paperback, 389 Pages

Summery :   Some things are permanent.  Indelible.

And they cannot be changed back.

Joy Malone learns this the night she sees a stranger with all-black eyes across a crowded room—right before the mystery boy tries to cut out her eye. Instead, the wound accidentally marks her as property of Indelible Ink, and this dangerous mistake thrusts Joy into an incomprehensible world—a world of monsters at the window, glowing girls on the doorstep, and a life that will never be the same.

Now, Joy must pretend to be Ink’s chosen one—his helper, his love, his something for the foreseeable future…and failure to be convincing means a painful death for them both. Swept into a world of monsters, illusion, immortal honor and revenge, Joy discovers that sometimes, there are no mistakes.

Somewhere between reality and myth lies…

My Review: The book starts off with Joy at some kind of dance rave thing with her friend. She goes on about her mother leaving her for some young artist. It’s just her and her dad who live together and her Brother in collage.

Joy sees 2 people and her first thought was “They are Goths” She stares at the guy with Black eyes and she wonders if it’s contacts. The Boy who she was looking at catches her looking and walks up to her and does this strange thing to her eye that looks like he tried to stab it. and after that everything changes for her.

The First few Chapter is like a roller coaster and trust me the whole book is like that, there is always something going on in this book that wont leave you bored. What got me glued to the book was because it just felt different then all the other Fantasy books and i love when story’s take a unique Twist.

There is a lot of weird creepy creatures and other make-believe things in this book that will leave any paranormal fan  happy. There isn’t really a book i can compare it to it’s unique in it’s own right. The Cover is really pretty. I can’t say that i LOVED it but i did very much liked it. The book is totally worth the read.

I think there will be people who can relate to Joy and her life and her personality. She doesn’t try to be the Hero. she is like a normal Teenager who will freak if Crazy things happen but she is very Brave. Ink is amazing Character. His like a Lost Puppy dog who just learned a new trick ( and it is adorable ) but in a way he is well Ink.  I feel a little obsess with Ink and i can’t wait for the 2nd book just for Ink.

The Story is well written and the Ending..how can i word this without spoiling the book….Hmm lots of Action and Tears and happiness, that is all i will say about the Ending but here is a gif showing how i felt during the end.

If you Love Fantasy and the Paranormal then read this book you wont Regret it i promise.

Book Review : Marked By P.C and Kristen Cast

  • Title: Marked ( A House of Night #1)
  • Authors: P.C Cast, Kristen Cast
  • Year Pub: 2007
  • Type: Paranormal, Vampires, Fantasy, Fiction
  • I was given this book Via BookMooch

About the Book: The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird’s world, vampyres have always existed.  In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire — that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.  It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling.  She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.  But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.  When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny–with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

My Review : On the back of the book it looks like a good read but the book itself…well not so much and i usually just love Vampire books. The book Marked is different then the average Vampire books. There was very little parts that i did enjoy of the book but like i said Very little. it had a LOT of awkward parts that had me putting down the book for a while. Zoey goes on about oral sex more then what i would want to read in “YA” Book actually i rather not read about oral sex at all and i am 22 years old and that stuff just bugs me. the book would’ve been good if they just left those parts out all together.

The writing was such a bore that i kept glancing at the words instead of actually reading it. Now this is just what i thought about the book, I know someone who just loves the series..but everyone is different so i am not gonna judge. so i guess it doesn’t completely suck, if you can get passed the awkward parts. It kinda reminds me of Twilight if Bella went to a all “vampyre school” Zoey is really boring and plan like bella.

It took me a while to actually getting myself to get this book because of mix reviews and now i completely understand why a lot of people didn’t enjoy the series.

Here are some quotes from the book

“Actually, since I’m gay I think I should count for two guys instead of just one. I mean, in me you get the male point of view and you don’t have to worry about me wanting to touch your boobies.”

“You are old beyond your years Zoeybird. Believe in yourself and you will find a way. But remember darkness does not always equate to evil just like light does not always bring good.”

“I’ve found that the way a person feels about cats-and the way they feel about him or her in return-is usually an excellent gauge by which to measure a person’s character”

“The problem, of course, was that turning into a monster was the brighter of my two choices. Choice Number 1: I turn into a vampyre, which equals a monster in just about any human’s mind. Choice Number 2: My body rejects the Change and I die. Forever.

So the good news is that I wouldn’t have to take the geometry test tomorrow.”

All in all this book is worse then Twilight. Read at your own risk.

The Fault in Our Stars By John Green

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

My Review

This Review ( if you can call it that ) is gonna be hard to write, Since i’m still not over it. After finishing TFiOS, the tears just wouldn’t stop. My Review isn’t gonna be long, for i can’t write this without crying. It took me longer to finish this book because of ALL that. Like i had to keep shutting the book and then open it again. I don’t know why it took me so long to buy this book, well i guess i do cause i usually hate reading about realistic fiction( i am more of a Dystopian person and Etc ) but i do not, Not ever regret buying this book. The Fault in Our Stars has completely changed my life and how i view it. This book has already means so much to me. It is a very sad book, but it’s still very Beautiful.

John Green you are my hero!!!

I think everyone needs to read this book. Yes you are gonna cry ( and if you don’t you have no soul ) Yes you are gonna want to throw this book or lock it with a key and lose the key in the ocean, But it is soooo worth the read. I PROMISE!

Now i’m gonna go cry in my bed.

Okay? Okay

( i know my review probably sucks BUT YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW FREAKING HARD IT WAS TO WRITE THIS! Sorry for caps )

Dance of the Red Death By Bethany Griffin

About the Book From Goodreads

Bethany Griffin continues the journey of Araby Worth in Dance of the Red Death—the sequel to her teen novel Masque of the Red Death.

In Dance of the Red Death, Araby’s world is in shambles—betrayal, death, disease, and evil forces surround her. She has no one to trust. But she finds herself and discovers that she will fight for the people she loves, and for her city.

Her revenge will take place at the menacing masked ball, though it could destroy her and everyone she loves…or it could turn her into a hero.

With a nod to Edgar Allan Poe, Bethany Griffin concludes her tragic and mysterious Red Death series with a heroine that young adult readers will never forget.

My Review

Let me start off saying i did really enjoy the book, but with that being said i still like the first book better. It true when people say “The first is always best”.

Dance of the Red Death is a lot darker then the first book, it goes more into the Red Death…and lets just say there is a LOT of death in this book. The book starts off from where it left off in Masque of the Red Death. Where they left the city city on a steam flying ship, when the city went to chaos. Life is pretty complicated for Araby, Especially with Will and Elliot. Not gonna get into those parts cause of Spoilers. But omg i am so Team Will( Even tho what he did to Araby, But you gotta do what you gotta do to save your family ). Elliot just seems so different in this book then the first, but i guess that’s understandable.

And omg the Ending to the book, just like WHY JUST FREAKING WHY? MY FREAKING APRIL! The ending will rip you’re heart out and piss you right off, and When i reached the last page i wanted to throw the book out the window, like i screamed “THAT WAS IT!? WTF” The Ending didn’t suck, It just sucked the way it ended.

I was so Happy( More like Jumping up and down Screaming) When i got this book in the mail. I couldn’t wait to read it. I just really Adore Bethany Griffin. And Masque of Red Death was just amazing.

If you love YA Steampunk, Dystopian and Science Fiction, The Masque of the Red Death Series is the Books for you.

About the book ( from Goodreads )

Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told.

Tavia immediately searches for answers, desperate to determine why she feels so drawn to a boy she hardly knows. But when Tavia discovers that the aunt and uncle who took her in after her parents’ death may have actually been responsible for the plane crash that killed them–and that she may have been the true intended victim–she flees for the safety of Camden, Maine, where the boy she sees in her visions instructs her to go.

Now, Tavia is on the run with no one to trust. No one, that is, except for her best friend and longtime crush, Benson.

Tavia feels torn between the boy who mysteriously comes to her at night and the boy who has been by her side every step of the way. But what Tavia doesn’t know is that the world is literally falling apart and that to save it she will have to unite with the boy in her visions. Only problem? To do so would mean rejecting Benson’s love. And that’s the one thing Tavia Michaels swore she’d never do.

Partials – By Dan Wells

From Goodreads

The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Kira, a sixteen-year-old medic-in-training, is on the front lines of this battle, seeing RM ravage the community while mandatory pregnancy laws have pushed what’s left of humanity to the brink of civil war, and she’s not content to stand by and watch. But as she makes a desperate decision to save the last of her race, she will find that the survival of humans and Partials alike rests in her attempts to uncover the connections between them—connections that humanity has forgotten, or perhaps never even knew were there.

Dan Wells, acclaimed author of I Am Not a Serial Killer, takes readers on a pulsepounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question—one where our humanity is both our greatest liability and our only hope for survival.

Dust Lands | Rebel Heart | Moira Young

Rebel Heart made me sad and angry most of the time, i still can’t get over what Saba did, like my brain can’t wrap around it like it’s jammed. At one point i had to shut the book just to breath. This book will leave you Hopeless and shocked. It’s a page turner all right like i was up all night reading and could not stop until i finished it, it was that good.

The book starts off with Jack but you don’t hear from him for a while until towards the end of the book, you hear about him doing stuff that makes you wonder ” What the hell Jack ” but then you know it can’t, be cause it’s jack there has to be a reason for everything..right? It’s jack you just know that in your gut.

And then there is Saba…oh sometimes i just want to smack her and throw the book out the window for what she did. you can tell there something up with her in the beginning. she does stuff that you just can’t believe and then your heart goes out for her but then she does stuff that pisses you off.

Tommo oh Tommo i have no words for him really just my sadness like i just want to rip my heart out and give it to him cause he has been threw so much.

But over all the book is a great read even tho it makes your heart break. If you read Blood red road and haven’t read Rebel Heart yet…what the hell are you waiting for? Read it! it’s worth the heart breaking. So much more goes on in the book that i can’t explain, tho i wish i could. Just read it..

Favorite Quotes

“All the time I’ve knowed you, Jack, you kept the door to that heart of yers locked up tight an the key hid away. Looks like she found it.
He says nothing. Molly waits. Then:
Keys ain’t her style, he says. She kicked the door down.”

“Saba! I’m afeared! cries Emmi.
If you are, you ain’t no sister of mine! I shout. Come at me agin!
I ain’t afeared of nuthin! She yells.
That’s more like it.”

“I think of what we might say. Him to me. Me to him. I ain’t no soft girl. I don’t know no soft words. Be with me, Jack. That’s what I’ll say. Burn with me. Shine with me.”

“How could she resist them eyes?
She tries, says Jack. Man, did she try.”

“Pa? You never said. What’m I gonna be? Good or bad?
He kisses the top of my head. Whispers in my ear, so’s only him and me can hear. You, my darlin daughter, are gonna be somethin else entirely.”

Dust Lands | Blood Red Road | By Moira Young

Blood red road can be a little hard to understand at first because of the writing, The author really was trying to get you to really understand Saba on how she sounds.Once i got best that i loved it and started to understand everything and even While i was reading the book inside my head i sounded like her and i loved that. Another reasons why i love this book is because of Saba’s Sass was so funny. I love sass in a book brings laughter in a sad book. And she is a bad ass..(Spoiler)She is the Angel of death and all. and oh my love for Jack is really strong. I love how he tried so hard to get Saba to understand that he liked her and watching there struggle was sad but lovely at the same-time. Saba is not used to the “Real” World all her life up to a certain point never even left home. She never got to meet people and never even been around boys her age step for her brother. so when jack came around she was very Sassy and “Bitchy”( can i use that word? ) But Jack still tried so you gotta give him cred.

The Plot of the story is amazing. It’s noting like The hunger games or Divergent or any other dystopian book and it really annoys me when people compare them together. THG is awesome don’t get me wrong ( Huge fan right here ) I know some people don’t like it but from the people judging book because someone doesn’t like it, just stop you need to just read this book first and judge from them you might end up liking it. I know i did.
