Waiting on Wednesday (10) – Alienated by Melissa Landers

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating!

Title: Alienated ( Alienated #1 )
Author: Melissa Landers
Expected publication: February 4th 2014 by Disney Hyperion
Type: Science Fiction

Goodreads: Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Thoughts: So far every Disney/Hyperion book that i have read has be awesome. This book seems no different. The book sounds different then the books that have been coming out lately but still have the things i love. I am all for Science Fiction and a story packed with adventures….and of course a side of romance. I’m a girl, i can’t help but crave some romance. One thing is i don’t like is the cover. It’s just to much going on for me. I’m sure once i read the book i will connect more to it.

Cara already sounds like a character i can relate to and easily fall love with. I am really excited to learn more about Cara and Aelyx ( maybe ship worthy? ). I can’t wait to dig in this one and just get zoned in it. I really hope it’s good. What do you guys think?

My overall reaction

YA Book Review: Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Title: Demonglass ( Hex Hall #2 )
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Published: February 7th 2012 by Disney-Hyperion
Type: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal
Source: Books-a-million

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: The critics have spoken-this New York Times best-seller is “impossible to put down!” Teens and reviewers alike have fallen in love with Demonglass’ humor, forbidden romance, suspense, and delicious paranormal fun.
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch, which was why she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered she’s a demon, and her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping her kind off the face of the earth. What’s worse, Sophie has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is why she decides to go to London for the Removal, a risky procedure that will either destroy her powers forever-or kill her. But once Sophie arrives, she makes a shocking discovery: someone is raising new demons in secret and planning to use their powers to destroy the world. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Acher to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

I fell in love with Hex hall and Sophie’s humor. I had major high hopes for Demonglass. I’m happy to say Demonglass didn’t fail me.

Demonglass is set after the end of Hex Hall. Sophie wants to go to London with her father to go threw the remove. She learns she isn’t a witch but a demon. Turns out she is more powerful then she thought and dangerous. After the death of her school mate and being hunted by her grandmother, She is determined to never use her powers again.

To go threw the remove she has to stay with her father for the summer. Her Father doesn’t want her to go threw it. With all that drama she finds out her father betrothed her and cal, and living with two other demons and one looks like Archer.

With the epic plot twist in the beginning. I was already hooked. Someone is raising demons, Archer pops up along with The Eye. Archer and Sophie try to figure out who is raising the demons. Who they found out who has been doing it shocks them both.

Sophie is still has the sarcastic humor we all have grown to love in Hex Hall but she is always more serious. She struggles to trust Archer and the people she has trusted. Sophie becomes Torn between doing what is right and wrong. She tried to ignore the love she has for Archer.

In my honest opinion i love Cal a lot more then i do Archer…so if i had to pick i’m all for team Cal….His sweet and caring. There is just so much i want to know about him. There is a lot you don;t know about cal, so he has this mysterious feel about him, and his a awesome healer.

The book is filled with suspense, plot twists, action and of course the romance. I laughed, I cried, I went  insane. I loved the writing, The characters, Pretty much everything. You could just feel the emotions in the words and i could picture what was going on easily in my mind.

At the end you are left with lots of unanswered question and more. you are just stuck wanting to know what will happen to everyone and Sophie and what will just happened next. Be prepared for the ending by keep tissues near by.

Again i still recommend this series so far. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I really hope the series keeps getting better.

YA Book Review: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Title: The Darkest Minds
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Published: December 18th 2012 by Disney Hyperion
Type: Dystopian, Science Fiction, Paranormal
Source: Amazon

add-to-goodreads-button3Summery: When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

The book starts off with Ruby when she was ten. Depending on you power you where put into groups of color: Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. Red being the most dangerous of them all. Ruby is an Orange hidden away as green. She uses her power to trick them. The thing about Ruby is she could never control her power ..well more like never tried. She was more scared of her self then anything else. She can read peoples minds and even take away their memory’s. She tries her best to never touch people. To her if she just listens to the rules and does what she is told she will be fine.

six years later. these people break her out with warning that she was caught and they will kill her. Not having any choice, she escapes out of the camp. Ruby soon after realizes that they are lying to her and keeping something from her. so she runs from them.

Ruby comes across a little girl name Zue and two boys named Liam and Chubs. They set off to East River to find the Slip Kid, a place rumored to be a save zone for kids like them. On there adventure she tries to keep her power a secret and lies to them even tho she is slowly falling in love with Liam. The book tricks you into thinking there is a love triangle but no..oh no far from a love triangle. Ruby learns she can’t trust the people in East Rivers and lets just say the other guys is a huge A-Hole.

The ending of the book was really sad. You watch Ruby grow more towards the end. In the beginning she was more stand off-ish but when you get towards the end you see that she becomes more brave and strong. She does what ever she can to keep the people she cares for save even it meant to make them forget.

I really enjoyed the book a lot. Another book this week that i couldn’t find much flaws. The writing was really good and so is the characters. I highly recommend this book. I don’t know if its cause i just really like dystopian’s or what but this week has been a good week of reading. I hope you guys enjoy this book like i did. The book is good from the beginning to the shocking ending. I really can not wait to get my hands on the 2nd book. Like i want it not i just might sell my soul.

YA Book Review: Masquerade

  • Title: Masquerade ( Blue Bloods #2 )
  • Author: Melissa De La Cruz
  • Published: 2007 By Hyperion Teen
  • Type: Vampires, Urban Fantasy, Supernatural
  • Paperback, 307 Pages
  • Source: Bookmooch Trade

Summery: Schuyler Van Alen is starting to get more comfortable with her newfound vampire powers, but she still has many unanswered questions. A trip to Italy in search of her grandfather only serves to make things more confusing. What secrets are the leaders of The Committee hiding? Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly underway for the famous Four Hundred Ball. In true Blue Blood fashion, the ball is totally fab, complete with masks-and hidden behind this masquerade is a revelation that will change the course of a young vampire’s destiny.

The thrilling sequel in Melissa de la Cruz’s vampire mythology has all the glamour, attitude, and vampire lore that made the first book a hit.

My Review: Masquerade is the second book in the Blue Bloods Series. Blue Bloods are Vampires who live for decades but when they reach a certain time they regenerate into new cell body’s. Some blue bloods are archangels who chooses to be Blue Bloods. Schuyler is a new Blue Blood who is half human. There is different kinds of Vampires : Blue bloods and Sliver Bloods, Sliver Bloods are angels who fall from the heaven when they chooses to side with Lucifer himself. Sliver bloods are evil and the only ones who can kill a blue bloods. Humans are called Red bloods by the blue bloods, some Red bloods know about blue bloods and even help kept them secret from the rest of the human race.

The Book starts with Schuyler and Oliver who went to Italy to find her Grandfather after her Grandmother was killed by a sliver blood in the first book. She was Told that her Grandfather knew the secrets to fight the sliver bloods.

Schuyler has this old spirit feel about her. She is young but has this wisdom and beauty about her. She Loves jack but she also has a connection with Oliver. Schuyler has urges for blood and needs a human to be hers or she could be put in a coma like her mother, and the only to do so is with Oliver but it changes things between the two.

The Book does have a weird love triangle thing going on but it’s really complicated. The Book isn’t all about love. I liked how the book wasn’t all about the love triangle but more to what the story was about, fighting the sliver bloods and why. Masquerade still has all the supernatural Twist that you got in the first book, but more intense.

The ending was a crazy ride with lots of suppresses, and huge cliffhanger that left you wanting more. Fantastic read. I really wanted to find out more on whats gonna happen between Schuyler and Jack. I just want more.
