Reaching the end of their flight in THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO, Todd and Viola did not find healing and hope in Haven. They found instead their worst enemy, Mayor Prentiss, waiting to welcome them to New Prentisstown. There they are forced into separate lives: Todd to prison, and Viola to a house of healing where her wounds are treated. Soon Viola is swept into the ruthless activities of the Answer, while Todd faces impossible choices when forced to join the mayor’s oppressive new regime. In alternating narratives the two struggle to reconcile their own dubious actions with their deepest beliefs. Torn by confusion and compromise, suspicion and betrayal, can their trust in each other possibly survive?
I fell in love with the first book The Knife of Never Letting Go in the series. Patrick Ness really knows how to get me hooked. When reading the book you kinda struggle with who to trust and what’s right from wrong. You watch Todd go threw so much struggle to try and protect Viola. in the beginning of the book there is this quote by Friedrich Nietzsche.
“Battle not with monsters
lest you become a monster
and if you gaze into Abyss
the Abyss gazes in you”
The quote was so spot on with this series and what Todd has to go threw. I had this quote stuck in my mind while i was reading it. From that quote and when the story’s starts it seriously brought tears in my eyes. I just wanted to hug poor Todd so much it hurt.
Todd and Viola’s Relationship is so heartbreaking and freaking sad. Todd cares so much for Viola that he would do any thing for her and struggles to keep her safe. The Thing poor Todd has to go threw this book was just sad. Like i couldn’t be able to do what he has to-do. Todd is in Love with Viola and doesn’t even freaking realize it and it seriously drives me freaking crazy. I need to know if they eventually Kiss and confess there love if they don’t in the next book then i will throw it out the window, i swear i will.
The book was full of suspense and intense nail gripping moments. I am pretty sure i almost had a few heart attacks wile reading this one. My feelings were crushed a few times. I just love the way Patrick wrote the book. He really truly knows how to write a freaking awesome book.
What was really cool about this book in the series is the fact it’s in Todd’s and Viola’s point of view. You to read what both of them were going threw and see there struggles. The ending was so freaking crazy. it ends with this huge cliff hangar that made me want to scream so i will be getting my hands on Monsters of men like asap.
Overall i would’ve liked more Todd and Viola moments but i still loved the whole story and the concept of it. There is a lot of action and suspense. It was a crazy amazing roller coaster ride. I recommend this book series every day of my life.
